Soft palate surgery typically involves a group of procedures performed under general anesthesia in the operating room. In most patients with tonsils that have not been removed before, palate surgery is combined with tonsillectomy.
Palate surgery (with or without tonsil surgery) is mainly used to treat sleep apnea, and procedures can be performed alone or in combination. These procedures include a combination of tissue removal and tissue repositioning, aimed at increasing the size of the airway without affecting normal functions such as breathing, speech and swallowing.
Soft Palate Implant Application
It is a special type of oral implant designed to alleviate snoring and other uncomfortable symptoms associated with sleep apnea. The palate implant changes the properties of the soft tissue of the palate, hardens it, and changes the flow of air around it. The device is a group of three cylinder-shaped braided polyester filaments that are permanently implanted in the soft palate. Over time, implants add structural support to the soft palate and harden it, along with the body's natural October fibrotic response.
